Level Up

Do you feel like you always live your life always trying to get away from the Devil? Are you trying to barely get by and just be safe; because “safe” isn’t a fruit of the spirit.Life can actually be more than what you think it is! God didn’t say we would be safe. Sometimes we will not be safe. The goal of life isn’t to be safe, but to level up; so our lives are more. Today we are going to focus on the story of Peter and Jesus; when Jesus walks on water. We see this in Matthew 14:22-33.

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

Have you been in a place like this where it seems like everything is against you?

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

When God starts pursuing you and taking you to another level; you have to make sure you don’t call what he’s doing a Ghost. If you are not careful fear can control your life.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

You always need courage to rightly describe what God and his activity is doing in your life.

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

You want to level up; do something you’ve never done before

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Through this story; Peter teaches us how to “Level Up” .

When we want to level up; we need to have curiosity. When curious people start asking questions; they start experiencing what God has for their life

George Washington Carver was an amazing man of God. He asked God “Hey tell me about the secrets of the universe”. God told him— “I will not give you the secret of the universe; but I will give you the secret behind the peanut.” Because of this he was able to create many inventions around the peanut; and is known as “The Peanut Man”.

If you are going to level up and experience more it’s because you start asking the right questions. Curiosity is the mother of possibility. Questions could look like; What does it look like for me to be the man of God you want me to be? God what is it that you want me to do?

We need to be curious about what Heaven has to offer. God is into the details when it comes to your life. You are loved by God and he has an amazing plan for your life.God might invite you to do something you have never done before— that’s the recipe for leveling up.

Another step to Leveling Up, is to have Audacity. Audacious people don’t ever ask for permission, they make things happen. We need to be like Peter and get out of the boat.

Don’t wait until the end of your life and realize you stayed in the boat; because the boat is man made. God is calling you higher. If you don’t get out of the boat, you may never experience the higher level for your life.

You were created to be a water walker. Be the one on the water; and not in the boat. Critics will smile in your face and stab you in the back. Take control of your life when everyone else has given up. The prerequisite to audacity is having a dream to do something you’ve never done before.

Lastly; to level up, you need to have humility. If you are not careful, Audacity can turn quickly into pride. In the story, when Peter falls, he says “save me”. He demonstrates humility when he says this by realizing that taking his eyes off of God, he majorly failed.

Even though God wants you to level up; there are still times you can fall; and he wants you to get back up. When you start walking on the water; it will be uncomfortable; if we start acting differently we will sink because we take our eyes off of God. Even though we take our eyes off of Jesus; he never takes his eyes off of us.

As Peter was sinking; he moved a level down; but Jesus took his hand and brought him back up to where he is. Jesus will always be interested in bringing you up

The Humble he brings up; the prideful he despises. Humble means I’m his son.

In 2019 we are called to level up— to go to another level
