More Than You Can Imagine
“Now unto him who is able to do Immeasurably More than all we ask, think, or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us”
When Paul wrote this verse in Ephesians, he wanted to make sure EVERYONE knew that God could do immeasurably MORE than we could ever think! God shows us the process behind seeing Immeasurably More in Jacob’s life. We find this in Genesis Ch. 28—
10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. 11 When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. 12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 There above it[a] stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. 14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.[b] 15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” 17 He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.”
Sometimes when God needs you in position to get you to do what he needs you to do; you have to move FORWARD, FROM; but In verse 11; Jacob is STOPPED.
Jacob is heading somewhere; but something outside of him, stops him. It says that he took a rock and put it under his head and went to sleep! Sometimes you know, dudes, they gotta make a man cave! Jacob has a crazy dream while he’s stopped, and God shows him an incredible vision of what is to come. Jacob thought he was being held up; instead God wanted to show him what his promises held! God said “I will never leave you until I have done what I have promised to you”.
STOPPING— is an access point for a move of God in your life.
Just like Jacob in this story, when we stop— we can start experiencing MORE than we could imagine. What do you want to experience more than you can imagine? — when we stop having these types of experiences, we land on an island of hopelessness. BUT; “More than you can imagine” doesn’t just happen. There’s a process to it!
Jacob saw and understood he was made for more when he STOPPED. When you stop you learn what you are doing wrong. Sometimes hopping jobs, hopping relationships, without stopping; doesn’t allow you to reflect on what’s wrong. That’s what beautiful about a new year in 2019!
If God stopped you this year, it’s because he’s setting you up for immeasurably more! You don’t even know what he has in store for you!
Think of a time in your life you experienced more than you could imagine; where would you be if you hadn’t gotten stopped?
It’s not just about being stopped; the next thing Jacob models— is being still. We see in Psalms 46:10 the words; “Be Still and know that I am God.” — the word know in that verse doesn’t mean education, it means experience. Every experience with God that you have can inform how you live, and prepare you for experiencing more than you can imagine.
We equate being still with restriction; but it’s not. Its about resurrection. When Jesus died, his body was still; and that stillness was the breeding ground for resurrection in his life. Just like when you plant a seed to grow something; it has to be still, and while it’s still, it becomes! The process of being still, is a process of maturation, and that maturation process will lead to promotion.
After Jacob was still; he received a dream. He SAW. He experienced more than he could imagine. God wants to deposit your future in you, but it requires you to be still. Jacob’s see-ing was connected to more. You will never HAVE more until you SEE more. You can’t see more until you are STILL; and you can’t be still until you STOP. That process becomes a platform for God to show you MORE.
What will 2019 look like if we experience MORE from God?
